FIGHTING ANIMAL TESTING FUNDING BETTER SCIENCE Over the past 30 years, Lush has blazed a trail in ending animal testing in cosmetics and campaigned to eradicate it from other industries, too.

We know that animal test results lack human relevance, are unreliable, unpredictable and cause unnecessary suffering. Since 2012, Lush has championed and funded better science through the Lush Prize, which has awarded almost £3 million to those pioneering and promoting non-animal technologies. Most people want to see an end to animal testing, but we need lawmakers to enact legislation that ends animal testing and channels resources into better science. That’s why we’ve built strategic partnerships with non-profit organizations in North America seeking real change and making a coordinated effort to fully replace animal tests with non-animal and human-relevant tests.

pass federal legislation** to end animal testing for cosmetics. And we know it’s possible because in September 2023 we celebrated a major victory when Canada officially passed that ban—a victory belongs to groups like Humane Society International and Animal Alliance of Canada who campaigned relentlessly to change federal legislation. But the fight continues in the United States, and we are not giving up. *strategic funding is separate from Charity Pot grants which exist to serve small, grassroots organizations bringing in less than $500K in annual income. **Please visit humanesociety.org to learn more about The Humane Cosmetics Act and how you can help.

FUNDING BETTER SCIENCE WITH DEXTER’S DRAGON EGG

In 2023, we supported both Humane Society International (HSI) and Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) through $100,000 USD grants to both. This funding helps PCRM lobby for accountability at the National Institutes of Health and the Federal Drug Administration and HSI to advance reform through scientific education. And since 2017, we’ve supported four organizations* with grants totalling more than $1.5 million USD: HSI, PCRM, InterNICHE and Animal Alliance of Canada. Each working with the intent to replace the use of animals in science. Because it’s time for a global, scientific sea change. Within North America, the United States must
